I don’t know about you, but I always love it when it rains. There is just something about the way it hits the roof of my house at night that relaxes me to sleep. Then if there is a bit of lightning and thunder with it, oh man… it makes me feel so happy.

Ok, it may be weird to some people, but imagine this – You are at home and you hear the rain starting to come down outside. You quickly get the dogs inside, because there is absolutely nothing worse than the smell of wet dog, then you rush through the house to shut all your windows so nothing soaks your furniture and floors. But then you get a thought and stop.

Instead of becoming more frantic in trying to prepare for a possible power outage, maybe turn all your lights off, open those couple windows you just shut because you truthfully know that the likelihood of rain getting in is slim, find a comfortable place to sit with a warm blanket and simply listen to the soft pitter-patter of the rain drops falling outside. And if you want to take it a step further, maybe start a fire in the fireplace for that little extra warmth and comfort, and find your favor drink that you can sip as you enjoy the song that God provided outside.

Doesn’t that sound wonderful? Ok, well if not then think about the benefits of rain.

Farmers need it for their crops to grow (meaning our food supply), it is a source of fresh water for all living things to drink, it helps in temperature control, it cleanses our air of pollutants so that we can breathe easier, and it has been proven to be very good for mental and physical healthy.

Plus, rain doesn’t usually stop train travel, much like our lives. When heavy weather stops airplanes from taking off and landing, trains can stay on schedule. Of course, there are extreme exceptions, but even most of those, railways have ways to keep to their schedules, like using the snow remover I mentioned in a previous post.

No matter what annoyances coming into our lives (rain), we can still move forward. We are the ones that decide how we view that annoyance. Do we sit down and enjoy it, or do we see it as a frustration and hinderance to our schedule?

What I suggest is, don’t let something that you can’t change control you. You might as well learn to see it as a blessing and smile, because it is going to be there whither you want it or not.

One day, I want to take a train trip, from Ireland to Scotland (through the UK) then to Italy, and truthfully, if it was raining part of the trip I don’t think I would mind. Sitting there, listening to the rain in one of those viewing cars while lounging in those big comfy seats would be so relaxing. It would probably put me to sleep.

So, instead of looking at the rain/annoyances of life as a bad thing. Choose to see them as a blessing or learning opportunity. We can all get frustrated at times, but it is up to us how we handle and react to them.

And… when the rain is gone, there is nothing like stepping out in the pure air that is left behind, just like how things in life, even frustrating things, will pass away so that the sun can shine once again.
