Dear Lady Seeking Fulfillment,

As a young girl, I never thought about fulfillment or what my future was going to be like. I was too busy playing out in the sun with my friends, dreaming of when our next vacation to grandma’s was going to happen, or thinking how in the world was math going to help me in life. Of course, when people asked me at a young age what I wanted to be when I grew up, I responded like many others. “I want to be… A teacher.”

It wasn’t until I reached high school that I realized that I needed to start thinking more seriously about my future. That’s when dozens of questions started to fill my mind. What type of job did I want? Did I need to go to college to get a job? Were any of the guys I grew up with my future husband? – hopefully not. If not, where is my future husband? Did I need to look for him in college? Who am I as a person? What am I supposed to become? Why do I feel so lost and sometimes alone?

Seeking answers can lead you down many roads. Personally, at first, I didn’t look in the right places. I was saved at the young age of 4, but I didn’t start making good, godly decisions until God got a hold of me in my senior year of high school. I’ll probably go into more detail about what happened before I found my way back to God, but for now, I want to explain that looking in the right places for fulfillment is very important.

“Anything other than a love relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, regardless of how good the thing may be, will bring you discouragement and disillusionment.”

– Jackie Kendall

I started looking for fulfillment in my friends and entertainment. I searched for what life was supposed to mean by the example of celebrities and fads. I thought a woman had to look a certain way, be married by a certain age, and have kids out of the house before retirement to fulfill the world’s idea of what makes a true woman. What I learned was that the world has a warped idea of womanhood.

“A woman is not born a woman. Nor does she become one when she marries a man, bears a child, and does their dirty linen, not even when she joins a women’s liberation movement. A woman becomes a woman when she becomes what God wants her to be.”

“I feel very strongly that marriage is not a higher calling than the single state. Happy indeed are those people, married or single, who have discovered that happiness is not found in marriage, but in a right relationship with God.”

So, Lady Seeking Fulfillment, I am going to tell you that to find the fulfillment you are looking for is not in that boyfriend you desire. He is not going to quench the longing of your heart. To truly find what you are looking for, you need to go to the only one who can fill in all the gaps in your desires and dreams, Jesus.

Start now, by opening your Bible and reading a little bit every day. The more you get to know the God who created you and the more you allow him to work in every area of your life,  the more you will be fulfilled. Try it.

                                                                          Signing off,
                                                                          Tami
