I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am ready for a road trip to…. anywhere.
After months of being stuck at home with the up and down weather, I am ready to experience some consistent sun again and see some place new. I don’t even care if I get stuck in our little travel van for hours, I just want out for a while.
But… do we allow ourselves to get that way about our faith or church life?
I have to admit that at times, I wish that I could just not care or worry about being the “good” Christian that God desires us to be. Or that I didn’t have to work so hard to find modest clothes or worry about not going into certain restaurants. It seems to be a lot of work at times and taking a break doesn’t sound to bad at times.
Thinking that way is actually the wrong perspective of the Christian life, and can be really harmful. Taking a road trip from our Christian life, opens up our minds and hearts to the dangers that God is trying to protect us from. He created standards and rules in his word not to entrap us, but to protect.
So when you go on a road trip this year, take God with you. Don’t leave him behind, because a road trip with God is the safest… and maybe the most fun. Try it.
