Will you ask God to help you better understand His Word?
Throughout Psalm 119 verses 33—38 the writer displays a willingness to know God’s direction and will for their life. You see the verbs: teach, give, make, incline, and turn. These words are asking God to help them better understand the commands and instruction given in the Bible. The desire shown in these verses, to learn more about God’s Word, is not done out of duty or obligation, but a sincere longing to learn how to act and speak based on principles found in the Bible.
These verses also show a commitment to God’s Word: keep, observe, delight, and stablish. We choose to keep things that we love and value – a gift from a grandparent, we observe things that we enjoy, like sports, we delight in hobbies or favorite foods, and we establish (practice to make a habit) other things to benefit us like exercising or eating healthy. The writer is committing to do that with God’s Word.
