Before we dig into the first section of Psalm 119, Aleph, let us pray and ask God to help us as we study His word.
“Lord, please help me learn something from your Word today, and apply it to my life.
Thank you for the Bible, help me always to cherish it. In Jesus name, Amen.”
We see above some of the 7 Names for Scripture, but there are other keywords and phrases to pay attention to. I will help you by looking up the Hebrew word in a Strongs Concordance and providing a similar word from the definition, a synonym, that may make it easier for you to understand the verse.
Study Tip: Using synonyms can be helpful, but remember scripture can stand by itself.
2 Peter 1:21 states: For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
As you become more familiar with reading and studying scripture, you will grasp the meaning of words without needing to look each word up. For now, we will look at the Hebrew definition, this is a good study habit to develop.
Read verses 1-8 again. Think of 2 or 3 sentences that summarize what they mean to you. Write them down in your Bible or a note book. Then pray again, asking that God will help you remember and apply what you have learned to your daily walk with Him.
Study Tip: Memorize one verse from each section of scripture you study. The more scripture you memorize and study the better you will be able to fight off our adversary – the devil.
