Whenever I see an old house falling apart like the one in the picture, I wonder about the stories that fill those walls.
Who lived there? What type of family were they? Did the kids play in the yard? Did the mom plant a garden every spring? What did the dad do? Did the family attend church every Sunday? What amazing memories where made in the living room? Did the smell of the meals fill the whole house? Did their neighbors visit often?
Did someone die in that house? Did anyone suffer abuse in one of those rooms? Where the kids happy? Was there ever a fire? Do sad secrets lurk around every corner?
No matter the questions we ask, it doesn’t change the history of that building. You can’t get back what is already in the past. All you can do is look forward to what is ahead. Soon a new building will stand where that one once stood. New memories will be made whether good or bad and that home will be forgotten.
So, today look at this home and remember, that what happens on this earth will one day pass away. But what we have in Christ will last forever. If that family believed in God, they all have new and perfect homes in heaven. They don’t have to worry about this house falling down or the memories disappearing, because they get to spend eternity with Christ in a perfect place.
