Making New Years resolutions is a long tradition that has been passed down through the ages. It is a time to reflect and consider what in your life you would like to change or make better. Most of the time we look at our health or our job goals, and set a new plan that ends up not lasting more than a couple months, if we can get past the first few days.

But for a Believer in Christ, we need to think a little differently. Now, thinking about the physical needs is not wrong, but if that is all we focus on then, yes, it is wrong. We need to remember who got us through the last year and think about how we will better serve and grow in Him in the New Year. That’s right. We as believers need to think about the maintenance of our spiritual lives.

Just as all trains need to be maintained to keep running on their tracks, our lives need to be maintained to be able to stay on our track of life. And when is better to take a look at what needs to be refocused and adjusted than at New Years? What new goals can we set that will help us have a smoother ride, in our day to day lives? What can we remove from our trains that has kept us from God or being useful for God? What spiritual New Years resolutions should we be making so that we can live that successful Christian path that God desires for us?

Health is important. But what is a healthy body, if your heart is full for darkness and sin? What is a new budget, when God isn’t a part of your giving? How can you be successful at work, when you are constantly at odds with not being able to go to church because of your busy schedule? God, He is the most important and He wants to be a part of every area of your life today. But we have to make the conscious decision to make Him our priority.

So, with the New Year upon us, what are your resolutions focused on this year?
