Life is full of unknowns. We will have things come up in our lives that we don’t know how to handle or how they will end up. This reminds me of a tunnel. We don’t know what is going to happen the moment we enter and then we can’t imagine what we will see once we exit.
I think about when a train is traveling through the mountains and it comes to a tunnel. The engineer, who has traveled this path many times, has no worries as the train enters the darkness, but you, who have never experienced this particular place, can feel on edge and uncertain of what may lay ahead. As the darkness surrounds the train fear can creep into your mind, causing your heart to beat faster, and your emotions to get all confused. You want to trust your engineer, but the unknown keeps you from being able to relax. There will be times in our lives that we will have to step out in faith and trust God to guide us, even when we have no idea what the outcome may be.
When the darkness finally begins to lighten and you look ahead to see the opening at the end of the tunnel, you feel a since of relief because you know you made it. Then moving into the light your eyes adjust and you see a beautiful valley below full of wonder and adventure. When we follow after God and trust him, he promises to provide and protect us. He knows what is ahead in our lives, we are just along for the ride and to see his wonderful work. Like that beautiful valley after the tunnel, we will experience beauty and hope after a moment of darkness in our lives. We just need to trust that God is our faithful engineer who will never lead us astray, as he promises.
With Him as our guide we don’t have to feel the unknown in our Christian lives.
