There are many things we can learn about the Lord and the Christian Life. But we must never forget that once you trust Christ as your Savior you now have a personal relationship with him. Just as a human relationship needs daily communication. To keep our personal relationship with the Lord strong we need to spend time with Him each day.

If you want to grow as a Christian a daily time with God is ESSENTIAL.

First – set a specific time. It can anytime but make sure you set that time aside. THEN STICK TO IT!!!

Ask the Lord to help you keep this daily appointment. If you fail, don’t quit – just start again the next day.

A good place to start is by taking the time you set aside and divide it into 3 parts – Bible reading, thinking/meditating on what you read and then praying.

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Start with a simple prayer.

Psalm 119:18 – Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law (the Bible).

  1. Have a definite Bible reading schedule – don’t just randomly pick a place to read. I suggest for new Christians the books of John and/or Romans in the New Testament and the Book of Psalms in the Old Testament.
  2. Keep a notebook handy. If you have questions or something speaks to you write it down.
  3. Mark in your Bible. Underline key verse or words, write down other references in the margins. If you don’t want to write in your “best” Bible pick up an inexpensive one to use for your quite time.
  4. Remember Scripture always interprets Scripture. If it doesn’t seem line up with another portions of scripture, then ask a pastor to help you understand.
  5. Then Pray. If you are unsure how to pray you can use this simple prayer guide: A.C.T.S.
  6. Keep a prayer list – remember to note when and how prayers have been answered.

Your daily time with God is the battleground where success or defeat in your life will be decided!
