Dear Seeking Fantasy Love,

Before I start this letter, take a moment and read this passage of scripture.

Mark 14:3-9 – And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

To fully understand this passage you first need to understand the significance of the alabaster box. It was used as a picture of a woman’s dowry that she would give to her future husband. The larger the box or jar of ointment showed the wealth of the family and the woman about to get married. So, the ointment was usually very valuable. Young woman would protect their boxes until the day she would break it for the man she was going to marry.

So when this woman in Mark broke her alabaster box and poured it on Jesus’ head, it was a huge cultural faux-pas. Many thought that what she did was a waste, but Jesus saw it as her honoring him with the best that she had. She found Jesus worthy of sacrificing her dowry to her future husband. Her love for Jesus was more important than a love she may receive from her future husband.

Today, we can compare our big, fantasy dreams to the alabaster box. We put so much of our time and energy thinking about our future spouse and imagining the perfect scenarios of how we will meet and fall in love. Sometimes we even put money into finding that perfect Mr. Right by going to big colleges that guarantee a wide variety to select from or traveling to foreign countries all for the chance that you might run into your perfect foreigner with an accent that just makes us swoon.

Writing this out sounds terrible. It comes across that we, as women, are out to shop for the man of our dreams from a selection sitting on a shelf at the store. It really makes men sound like a product, putting a value system on them, rather than thinking of them as a person. Yuck. But so many of us, me included, have thought about finding a relationship in this way at one time or another.

Come on ladies, we have all had these thoughts. I know we don’t want to admit it, but it is true.

Are we holding onto these fantasies in our minds in hope that they will happen? Are you willing to sacrifice those dreams and let God take control of your love life? Do you see God to be worthy enough to sacrifice your dreams of the future? Are you willing to break your alabaster box at Jesus’ feet today?

When you give your dreams to Christ, you can wait with confident assurance that He will provide you with your Mr. Right, if it is in His will for your life. We don’t have to worry about our future spouse because He already has written your perfect love story. And until that time, He wants to fill that desire in your heart for a relationship.

It took me a while to finally let go of my fantasies to let God write my love story and wow… It turned out better than I could have ever imagined. There was no way that I could have written my story, it was way to incredible to even begin imagining. And that is what God wants to do for every lady wanting a fantasy love. The question is, are you willing to sacrifice your fantasy for a real love story written specially by God? It is your choice.
