Cursive is often said to be an unnecessary skill in our schools today, but to me as someone who had to learn it and then teach it, it isn’t only about the skill. It is about the process that really matters.
Think about it, no one liked to learn cursive. The teachers were extremely picky about the angles, curves, and flow of each individual letter that you drew. At my school, they would put a little red mark by the letters that needed to be rewritten and if they were still not PERFECT the second time, you had another mark. After a while, you would get frustrated and want to quit, but the teacher would never let you until you finished every single letter.
Even though we all hated learning cursive, during the process we learned patience, perseverance, dedication, and at the end what it feels like to be successful after a difficult problem. If you as me, those are even greater lessons to learn that the curseve. What do you think?
