,

This week I challenge you with Matthew 21:1-3

1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, 2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. 3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.

This seemed like a simple request but let’s look at it from two different perspectives.

1. Disciples: Go and take someone’s ass and colt, if they have any questions just say “The Lord hath need of them.” Isn’t that stealing? Is a stranger going to allow us to take their animals? Donkeys bond closely with their owners and don’t like strangers – this was not going to be easy!

2. Owner: With it being Passover there are hundreds of people coming through the village they would be watching for thieves. Two strange men come and start to take their donkeys. The owners were probably afraid and thought the strangers might harm their family. The donkeys were most likely a big part of the owner’s livelihood how would they survive without them?

But what did happen?…Mark 11:4-7

4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. 5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? 6 And they (disciples) said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they (owner) let them go.

The disciples went. The owner let them take the donkeys.

What can we learn from this?

  1. When we obey God’s commands He will provide even when it seems impossible.
  2. The owner was willing to fulfill the Lord’s need.

God has already fulfilled your greatest need – Salvation! John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

God can use you to meet another’s need

Are you willing to do that?

This week to find someone who has a need and fulfill it!
